最典型的例子是猶太人的成就，除了個人的能力，猶太人在傳統的宗教和文化的熏陶下都比較團結與合作。
這個因素對猶太人在科技、金融等領域取得很大的成就有著密切的關系。
東方社會傳統上除了家庭觀念外，也非常重視國家、民族的利益，所謂“先天下之憂而憂，后天下之樂而樂”，這種思想是應該肯定的。
東西文化的相互配合是目前新加坡社會的一個重要課題，沒有“根”的社會是極為危險的。
不過，正如楊振寧教授所講的，除了保留東方優良傳統之外，也應注意注入西方“aggressive”精神及其他優點。
這樣在21世紀中，我們將會取得更多更大的成就。
