there are obvious reasons why some western holidays are so popular in china. on the one hand, some of the western holidays which we chinese don’t have are reasonable and meaningful, such as father’s day and april fool’s day etc. on the other hand,the prevalence of globalization enables western culture to prevail in china. overwhelmed by such a trend,chinese unconsiciously get involved in western holidays and culture.

Have you ever bought any food on the train? And do you ask for the receiptafter buying it? Nowadays, all trains in China provide its passengers withreceipts for commodities, but 7 years ago, things were quite different.
On 13th of October, 20__, the train T109 from Beijing to Shanghai wasspeeding on the railway. A graduate student bought a sausage at 1 yuan on thetrain, then asked for a receipt.
“Are you kidding? It’s just one yuan!” The crew member was surprised.
The student, however, answered in a determined voice, “I paid the money, soI deserve the receipt.”
“But we never give receipts on the train.’ As a result, his further requestwas turned down by a cold shoulder.
Several days later, the student sued the National Railway Ministry, for notproviding receipts for passengers.
To his dismay, the court turned down the case for lack of evidence. But he,who majored in law at that time, believed law as a most powerful weapon, so hedid not give up. And whatever we buy on thetrain now, there’s a receipt for us.

His words spread a strong faith in law, which is not only a doctrine of alaw student, but also a belief that all citizens ought to hold. It is this faiththat initiates the student to resort to law for a tiny issue; it is this faiththat supports him to endure all the exhausting trips when collecting evidence;It is this faith that makes a seemingly “ridiculous” receipt request legal andrightful. It is this faith that helps to change our life, enhance our judicialsystem and bring social justice.
To many, a receipt of 1 yuan is too small to mention, however rights are tobe respected and law is to be believed in. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure. In the late 1930s, when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had to leave. On his last day in Qingdao, he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragon’s mouth. He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decided to put right his childish error. In 20xx, he visited Qingdao and returned it to the Aquarium with his sincere apologies. He received a warm welcome. When James visited Qingdao, I accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit. I was deeply touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I think to err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one’s error. Honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. So we should try to keep an honest mind in everything we say and do. A report said in an open letter published recently, a Dutch animal-rights group has asked their much-loved Queen to stop wearing fur. The Group pointed out that making clothing from fur represents cruelty to animals. “ Fur belongs to animals, not to human beings.”
Nowadays a lot of greedy people hunt and kill wild animals and birds, so as to make money by selling their hides at high prices. This kind of killing should be stopped and seriously punished. If we don't take actions to protect the wild animals and birds, they will soon disappear from the globe. Man will one day find himself a very lonely creature on earth indeed.
Until such a day, when we finally realized that we no longer have these friends or neighbors, what are we human beings going to say? Sorry? No, it is too late to say sorry to them.

I believe it is in my nature to dance by virtue of the beat of my heart,the pulse of my blood and the music in my mind. So I dance daily.
The seldom-used dining room of my house is now an often-used ballroom — anopen space with a hardwood floor, stereo, and a disco ball. The CD-changer hassix discs at the ready: waltz, swing, country, rock-and-roll, salsa, andtango.
Each morning when I walk through the house on the way to make coffee, Iturn on the music, hit the "shuffle" button, and it's Dance Time! I dance aloneto whatever is playing. It's a form of existential aerobics, a movingmeditation.
Tango is a recent enthusiasm. It's a complex and difficult dance, so I'm upto three lessons a week, three nights out dancing, and I'm off to Buenos Airesfor three months of immersion in tango culture.
The first time I went tango dancing I was too intimidated to get out on thefloor. I remembered another time I had stayed on the sidelines, when the dancingbegan after a village wedding on the Greek island of Crete. The fancy footworkconfused me. "Don't make a fool of yourself," I thought. "Just watch."
Reading my mind, an older woman dropped out of the dance, sat down besideme, and said, "If you join the dancing, you will feel foolish. If you do not,you will also feel foolish. So, why not dance?"
And, she said she had a secret for me. She whispered, "If you do not dance,we will know you are a fool. But if you dance, we will think well of you fortrying."
Recalling her wise words, I took up the challenge of tango.
A friend asked me if my tango-mania wasn't a little ambitious. "Tango? Atyour age? You must be out of your mind!"
On the contrary: It's a deeply pondered decision. My passion for tangodisguises a fearfulness. I fear the shrinking of life that goes with aging. Ifear the boredom that comes with not learning and not taking chances. I fear thedying that goes on inside you when you leave the game of life to wait in thefinal checkout line.
I seek the sharp, scary pleasure that comes from beginning something new —that calls on all my resources and challenges my mind, my body, and my spirit,all at once.
My goal now is to dance all the dances as long as I can, and then to sitdown contented after the last elegant tango some sweet night and pass on becausethere wasn't another dance left in me.
So, when people say, "Tango? At your age? Have lost your mind?" I answer,"No, and I don't intend to."

The past two days are special for the 7.23 million examinees and their parents. It is the National College Entrance Examination (Gaokao in Chinese). Based on the current education system in China, the result of the two day exam greatly impacts the future of any students in China. The score will decide whether you can receive college education. For most places in China, only half of the students are eligible for college education (only 3.40 million will be admitted to colleges in 20xx) and the rest has to start work after high-school. In cities like Beijing and Shanghai, students are lucky enough to have a much higher ratio (more than 70%) to enter colleges.
Tsinghua, Peking University, Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University are among the first class in China. But only very few people can go there.
To enter a college or not, or to enter a good college or not directly impact the first offer they can get after graduate and impact their career. So it is the most critical time for students.
Isaac recorded the "No Honking During Gaokao" sign. I saw the same sign near Henan Rd. and Zhaojiabang Rd.. Not only honking is not allowed. All construction sites around schools were ordered to work in limited time in the recent 10 days. ever since the dawning of the history of mankind, there have been myriads of diversifed inventions, discoveries, and even explorations of the mysteries of the universe. in fact, the human beings are so intelligent that we have solved almost all kinds of problems we have confronted with.
however, nobody has ever made out what the word “love” really connotes, not even the most famous people such as great politicians, saints and philosophers can clarify the meaning of “love”， neither can they deal with the various affairs concerning love. love is like a huge boundless net that shrouds us all in. we can neither break away from it nor escape from it. like it or not, we are always entangled in it. it is an invisible net without any form, that shrouds in different people from different angels; it is a merciless net that upsets us or even tortures us to death. it is also a supreme net which almost no human can surpass. even if they are heroes, emperors, wise men or saints, they can do nothing but show their helplessness in its face. those who can breathe through the holes of the net should be regarded beyond commonness and vulgarity. love can bring us temporary comfort and happiness, but mostly they bring about annoyance and sufferings. maybe this is the reason why many people have seen through the illusions of the mortal world. however it is not so easy to break away from this boundless, ever-existing and indifferent net of love.
love is varied and changeable, but roughly it can be divided into three categories: family love, fraternal love and amatory love. not like monkey king who jumped out of the rocks, we were all born after mother's pregnancy of about nine months, hence we have countless relatives without any choice: parents, grand-parents, and grand-parents-in-law, uncles and aunties, brothers and sisters, etc. and once looking at the genealogical tree, we'll see no end. family love is what everyone longs for, but the warmth and support from our beloved ones are what everyone yearns for the most. but how many of us are determined to contribute to our beloved one? and how many don't expect repayment and relaxed. conscience even if they have the desire and preparation to contribute to their beloved. the distance between relatives is different and so are their expectations. but since it's very difficult to know how much we should expect, a lot of worries and distresses emerge.

fraternal love or friendship is wide-ranged and flexible. generally speaking, everyone is our friend, just as chairman mao says “our friends are all over the world”。 but transcend age, sex, nationality, state and economic conditions. to them the most important is common benefit, common interest and understanding. friendship is formed during the course of studying, working and fighting. the battle companions who have survived many hazards usually enjoy long-lasting friendship.
