i. teaching aims:
1. knowledge aims:
1) words:transportation, mile.
2) sentence pattern:
how do you get to school? by bus and by bike.
how longdoes it take to get to school? it usually takes about 35 minutes.
how faris it from his home to school? about 10 kilometers.
3)learn to talk about transportation.
2. ability aims:
practicing more to improve the students’ four skills and to understand the culture of the western countries.
ii. importance:
continue to learn to talk about how to get to some places (different kinds of transportation, how long it takes to go to places, and how far away the places are.).
iii.difficulties:
1. practice how to talk about the transportation in different ways and conclude different forms of the transportation.
2. help the students find out the right ways to study english in the future.
iv. teaching procedure:
step 1 greetings
step 2 warming up
ask a few students how they get to school in the morning and how long it takes?
step 3 revision (section a 3a)
1. help the students recite the passage with the questions.
(if the students cannot recite this text, play the recording for help.)
2. ask the students to complete the questions and tell the class their views.
eg: why it usually takes about 35 minutes, not 10 minutes or 25 minutes. etc.
this activity can help the students think more about the questions, find the right way to do some reading, and improve their thinking and reading’s skills.
step 4 practice (section a 3b)
this activity provides guided oral practice using the target language.
1. use the sample conversation in the box and the information in the pictures of 3b to make their own conversations in pairs.
ask a few pairs of students to present their questions and answers to the class.
2. developing (my design, not in the book)
give the students another 3 pictures, practice the target language in the third person singular form.
eg: a: how go to work ?
b: he/she to work. (… by ….)
a: how far is it ( from… to… ) ?
b: it is miles / kilometers.
a: how long does it take ( him/her to go to work ) ?
b: it takes .
