the past continuous tense過去進行時態用法
1. actions happening at a particular time in the past 過去某個時候在進行的動作

2. two continuing actions in the past. 兩個過去某時在持續進行的動作

he was practicing the piano while other children his age were playing games and having fun.

3. contrasting continuing and complete actions in the past. 對比過去某時在持續和已經完成的動作

he was watching a tom and jerry cartoon on television at 8:00 pm last night.

he was watching a tom and jerry cartoon on television when he first heard western classical music.

while & when的區別:
while to link two continuing actions 連接兩個持續進行的動作，可以翻譯為“正在這時”

句型結構：s1+ was/ were doing + while +s2 + was/ were doing.

he was practicing the piano while other children his age were playing games and having fun.

when to link longer, continuing actions with shorter, complete ones. 對比過去某時在持續和已經完成的動作，可以翻譯為“當……時候”

句型結構：s1+ was/ were doing + when +s2 +did.  對比以下句子：

he was watching a tom and jerry cartoon on television at 8:00 pm last night.

he was watching a tom and jerry cartoon on television when he first heard western classical music.

練習：用括號里的動詞回答問題
