一、語言要點
1. at the end of 在…末端；在….盡頭
At the end of the street, you will see a Chinese restaurant.
The computer is widely used at the end of last century.
2. be about to do “即將….”表示更近的將來，不能和表示將來的具體時間連用，但be going to 可以同表將來的時間狀語連用。如：
We are going to have a meeting tomorrow.（但不可說，we are about to have a meeting tomorrow.）
3. around the corner 同very near 臨近
4. struggle through 掙扎著度過（難關）
Struggle with/against 同…做斗爭
Struggle for …為…而掙扎
Struggle to one’s feet 掙扎的站起來
5. find oneself 發現自己在（某個地方、某種狀態）
5. in crease 增加
Increase +to +n

6. die down 同become less strong or violent指“風、火、光、興奮等”漸弱，漸息；（聲音）靜下來。例如：
The fire is dying down. Please get more coal. 火快要熄了，請再弄些煤來。
It took a long time for the excitement to die down.激動的心情要很長時間才能平息下來。
比較：die out=（of families , races,costoms and ideas）to disappear completely.(家族、種族)滅亡，滅絕；（風俗、習慣等）消失，消滅。例如：
Die out =(of families ,races, customs and ideas) to disappear completely.
把長子教育成為牧師，這個習慣快要消失了。
The practice of educating the oldest son to be a priest is dying out.
7. threaten to do 嚇唬說要……
8. be thankful for …感謝；慶幸。例如：
You should be thankful for your good fortune.你應該慶幸你的好運道。
9. value 同to consider(someone or something) to be of great worth 認為…很有價值。例如：
I’ve always valued your friendship very highly. 我總是把你的友誼看得很重。
10. come to terms with 同give in屈服
11. Bear （bore，borne/born ） 承擔；支撐；忍受忍耐。（常與can could連用于疑問句及否定句中）例如：
I can’t bear the pain any more. 我痛得在也忍不住了。
I can’t bear living alone.(=I can’t bear to live alone)一個人獨居我受不了。
