i. pre-listening: (10 mins)
1. to discuss the lesson objectives with the ss so that they can have a general idea of what to learn in the period;
2. to motivate students to listen by taking a glimpse of some of the great buildings in the world;
3. to learn key words by taking petronas towers in kuala lumper as an example.
a) when was it built? what is it built of?
it’s a modern building built in (1998) the late twentieth century. it’s made of glass, steel and concrete.
what do people use to make such great buildings? (show pictures: metal, glass, concrete ,wood, bamboo, stone, etc.)
b) what kind of building is it?
it’s a skyscraper or a commercial office tower.
t: every building has its purpose. look at the following buildings, guess what kind of building each one is. (show pictures)
