s1 : let me try . generally speaking . singular nouns are used with singular verbs . plural nouns are used with plural verbs . the collective noun can have a singular verb or a plural verb . if the noun refers to a whole to the individual member of a unit , the verb is plural . but some collective nouns , such as people , cattle ,police , are always used with plural verbs .
