四.語法知識
一.“ must，can/ could，may/ might + 動詞原形”常用來表示對現在或將來發生情況的推測。
① must 只用于肯定句中，表示“一定、肯定”。其否定 mustn’t 表“不準、禁止、不可以”等。如：
he never takes a taxi. he must be very poor.
i thought you must like something to read，so i have brought you some books.
我想你一定喜歡看點東西，所以我帶來了些書。
注意：含有 must be 的反意疑問句，常用“ is/are + 主語”。含有 must do 的反意疑問句常用“ do/ does + 主語”。
② can/ could 多用于否定句或疑問句中，偶爾用于肯定句中表示一種可能性。如：
attending a ball can be exciting.
michael can’t be a policeman，for he’s much too short.
邁克不可能是警察，因為他太矮了。
③ may/ might 通常用于肯定或否定陳述句中。當表示某事可能發生時，可用could，may，might .如：
— are you coming to jeff’s party？
你來參加杰夫的晚會嗎？
— i’m not sure. i may/ might go to the concert instead.
不太確定，我有可能去參加音樂會。
二、 could/ can，may.
might 表示“請求、建議、許諾、能力”等。could/may 用于表示委婉地提出請求或允許，“給予請求”的答復用 can/may . could/might 也可以表示“許可”，語氣比 can/may 委婉，表示的可能性較小。如
— could i call you by your first name？
— yes，you may/can.
二.賓語從句
（1）that:陳述句充當賓語從句，由that引導，that不在從句中擔當成分，只起連接作用，常可省略
(2) if/whether：一般疑問句充當賓語從句時，用if/wtether引導，賓語從句的語序是陳述句語序，但在or not之前，不定式之前，介詞之后只能用whether
賓語從句中常見的錯誤
一. 連詞錯誤
例1:he asked ________ there was a bookshop in the street.
a. that b. what c. how d. whether
錯解:a;正解:d
剖析:ask 表明了賓語部分含有詢問的意思。而that不能引導疑問語氣的句子。
