diligence—foolish as a person is, he can succeed in his work if he works hard. that does not admit of any doubt. perseverance—when you fail, don’t lose heart. keep on working until you accomplish your aim. honesty—if you tell lies or does not keep your words, no one will rely on you. i would rather be scolded than cheat (others).

4 my aim 我的志向
whatever a man’s status is (may be), he must have an aim. if not, he can hardly stand on his own two feet in the world. that stands to reason.
however important fame and wealth may be, we must not let them become our object in life. we should aim at doing something useful to the society. if my aim can come true, i hope (wish) to be a teacher. however, teaching is by no means an easy thing. i must apply myself closely to my studies so as to be able to cope with my duties (as a teacher).
不論人是什么身份，他必須有一個志向。如果沒有的話，他很難立足于世上。那是顯而易見的。不論名利如何重要，我們切不可讓它們成為我們生活之目標。我們應當志在做一些對社會有益的事情。如果我的志向能實現的話，我就希望成為一個老師。然而，教書并不是一容易的事情。我必須專心學業以便能應因我的職責。

what will you be doing when you are 26 years o1d? studying at university or working for a living? take a look at what albert einstein was doing at the age of 26.
100 years ago，einstein was working in switzerland.his hobby was physics.without much money or help，he wrote five papers(論文)for a physics magazine.three of these greatly changed the study of physics and our understanding of space，time，light and matter(物質).his most famous work is on the theory of relativity(相對論).einstein was given the nobel prize(諾貝爾獎)for his discoveries.although he did many other things later，1905 has been called einstein’s “year of wonders(奇跡)”.it has been 100 years since then.because of this，the un has named world year of physics.
fifty years after einstein’s death，a question is asked，“will there ever be another einstein?”
it may take a 1ong time.after all，einstein was born more than 200 years after sir isaac newton，another great scientist.besides，physics is a different field(領域)now, and education is different，too.even if you can't be the next great scientist，it is still helpful to remember some of the things that made einstein great.he thought independently(獨立地)and read widely.he left us with a formula(公式)for life：if a is a success in life，men a=x+y+z.x is work；y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut.
