appear
作動詞，有“出現；露面；出庭；（在影片等中）出場”等含義。如：
it was already past nine o’clock, but susan didn’t appear.
已經超過九點了，但是蘇姍還沒有露面。
[拓展] appear還可作系動詞，意為“似乎，好像，看來”，用法如下：
★appear + (to be) 形容詞或名詞。如：jim may appear (to be) a fool, but actually he’s quite clever. 吉姆看上去也許很笨，但實際上很聰明。
★appear + to do。如：mother appears to be talking to herself. 媽媽似乎在自言自語。
★it appears + （to 名詞或代詞）+ that從句。如：it appears to me that they are right. 在我看來，他們好像是對的。

初識if從句

一、if表示“如果；假如”的意思時，常引導條件狀語從句。
二、if從句既可放在主句之前，也可放在主句之后。從句在前，主句在后時，主從句之間要用逗號隔開；主句在前，從句在后時，主從句之間不用標點符號。
三、在“祈使句+ if從句”或“if從句+陳述句”中，if從句中通常用一般現在時。
四、特別注意
在英美人說或寫的正規英語句子中，一般要把名詞放在主句中，而把代詞放在從句中。所以，將英語翻譯成漢語時要把英語中的代詞譯成相應的名詞，把名詞譯成相應的代詞。再如：after he had left college, my brother went abroad for higher studies. 我哥哥大學畢業后，他出國深造去了。
