* sort 還可以用在of…sort 短語中，kind也有這種用法，即of…kind。
如：
helen would never permit anything of the sort.
海倫決不會允許這樣的事情發生。
i said nothing of the kind to ruth.
我沒和露絲說過這樣的話。
* sort of 和 kind of 都可以用作狀語，表示“有……”、“有幾分……”
如：
the movie was sort of disappointing.
這部電影有點令人失望。
i’m feeling kind of tired.
我感到有點累。
—did you enjoy the concert？
—sort of.
你喜歡這場音樂會嗎？還可以吧。
2. many students have hobbies, such as reading, painting, growing vegetables in their gradens, or looking after animals.
許多學生都有自己的愛好，例如看書、畫畫、在花園里種菜，或是照顧動物。
* such as 意為“例如”“像”，用來列舉事物，通常是以整體之中的部分同類人或事物作例。 such as 之間可以用逗號和句子隔開，之后不用逗號，直接跟名詞或代詞。
如：
a man such as liu xiang will surely succeed.
像劉翔這樣的人是肯定會成功的。
we’ve planted lots of different flowers, such as roses, carnations, and chrysanthemums.
我們種了許多種花卉，例如玫瑰、康乃馨、菊花等等。
some of the european languages come from latin, such as french, italian, and spanish.
部分歐洲的語言，例如法語、意大利語、西班牙語等都源于拉丁語。
* like 也可以用來舉例，可與such as 互換。
如：
some cities, like/ such as dalian and kunming are very clean and beautiful.
有些城市，例如大連、昆明，非常干凈、美麗。
there are several people interested in this activity, like/ such as mrs. brown and miss lee.
有幾個人對這項活動感興趣，比如布朗夫人和李女士。
* 表示列舉時，such as 和like 后只能接整體之中的部分人或物，不能將全體成員或所有內容一一列舉。如我們不能說：
here we study three subjects, that is, chinese, math, and physics.
在這我們學三門課程，那就是語文、數學和物理
* for example意為“舉例”“例如”，是以整體之中的一個為例來舉例說明，用以說明某一方面的情況或佐證某一論點，在句子中多用作插入語，為之可以在句首、句末或句中，且前后常用逗號與句子隔開。
如：
for example, air is invisible and of no smell.
例如：空氣是無色無味的。
noise, for example, is a kind of pollution as well.
噪音，打個比方，也是一種污染。
his handwriting is very good. look at this, for example.
他的書法很好，例如這一件。
