1. consult sb. on/ about sth. 向……征求……方面的意見, 就……向……請教
i consulted with a friend on a matter. 我和朋友商量一件事。
2. be content with(=be satisfied with) 滿足于be content to do sth. 愿意做某事
he is quite content with his present fortune. 他對自己目前的境遇頗為得意。
not everyone will be content to betray friends for money.
3. contrary to (=in opposition to) 與……相反
my sister’s taste in dresses is contrary to my own. 在服裝方面，我妹妹的愛好和我完全不同。
4. on the contrary 相反
he is not poor, on the contrary, he is a millionaire. 他不窮, 相反, 他是個百萬富翁。
5. in contrast to/with 和……形成對比
by contrast 對比之下
the black furnishings provide an interesting contrast to the white walls. 黑色家具和白色墻壁形成很有意思的對比。
the coastal areas have mild winters, but by contrast the central plains become extremely cold. 沿海地區的冬天天氣暖和，可是相比之下中部平原卻異常寒冷。

8. at one’s convenience(=where and when it suits one) 在方便的時間或地點 be convenient to / for 對……方便
please deliver the goods at your earliest convenience.請盡早送貨。
it’s a great convenience to live in town. 住在城市里有很大的方便。
will it be convenient for you to come in the morning? 你上午來方便嗎？
9. convince sb. of (=cause sb. to believe or feel certain; to persuade sb.)使某人確信。
try to persuade sb. to do sth.勸說某人做……
i try to convince him of the reality of the danger. 我試圖使他相信危險的確存在。
can you persuade her out of her foolish plans? 你能勸她放棄她那些愚蠢的計劃嗎？
10. cope with(=deal with, try to find a solution to)應付, 處理
i’m afraid i can’t cope with this problem. 恐怕我應付不了這個問題。
11. at all costs不惜任何代價. at the cost of 以……為代價
the bridge must be repaired within three days at all costs. 要不惜一切代價在三天內把橋修好。
12. be critical of 愛挑毛病的，批評的
the inquiry was critical of her work. 該項調查對她的工作提出了批評。
13. cure sb. of+某種疾病 治好某人的疾病
that nasty shock cured him of his inquisitiveness for ever. 那一沉重教訓根除了他凡事愛打聽的毛病。
14. a danger to對……的危險; be in danger(of)處于……危險中; be out of danger脫離危險
