2. listen to a song: we wish you a merry christmas. then ask questions about the song: “what’s the song about? is it about children’s day?”
step 2: presentation
1. the song is about christmas and new year’s day. they are holidays. show unit 6 holidays on the board.
2. the song is about christmas. read and learn the word: christmas. the students of different teams read. boys and girls have a match then read the word: christmas. spell the word. the whole class spell from the low voice to the high voice.
3. to elicit favourite: teacher says: i like children’s day. i like new year’s day. i like christmas very much. i like christmas best. christmas is my favourite holiday. read the phonetic and the chinese meaning of favourite. talk about favourite things: favourite colour, favourite animal, favourite fruit.
4. let the students talk about their favourite holidays. when the children talk about the holidays. show the pictures and the ppt. with when is it? what do people usually do? then elicit the new phrases. read and know the meanings. to teach go to parties, eat moon cakes, play with lanterns, have a big lunch, visit relatives and friends.
5. how many moon cakes can you eat? to let them love our chinese traditional food.
6. my uncle is my relative. who is your relative? make examples of the word: relative. know the meaning well.

step 3: drill and practice
1. what’s your favourite holiday? ask and answer with one of the students then try to let 3 groups act the dialogues. then boys ask and girls answer according to the forms of the holidays.
2. review the phrases on the blackboard then do exercise one. fill in the blanks with the phrases.
3. show the verbs in the past types. let the students try to read quickly then tell the principles.
4. read some special ones of the verbs in the past tpyes too. try to read and learn. the teacher reads the verbs the students stand up and read the past types. example: the teacher reads: go. the students stand up and say: went.
