在復合句中起狀語作用的從句叫狀語從句。按其意義可分為時間、地點、原因、條件、讓步、比較、目的、結果、方式等類別。不同的狀語從句是由不同的連接詞引導的，因此，要掌握狀語從句的用法，記住連接詞尤為重要。本模塊我們主要復習地點、條件、讓步和時間狀語從句。
(1) 地點狀語從句。常由連詞where (在……地方)，wherever（無論……在哪里）和anywhere (無論哪里，任何地方)，everywhere (到處，任何地方)等引導。如：
where there is a will, there is a way. 有志者事竟成。
put it where we can all see it. 把它放在我們都看得見的地方。
(2) 條件狀語從句。通常由連詞if, unless (除非)，in case (萬一，如果)，as\ so long as (只要)，supposing\ supposed (假設)，provided\ providing (that) (假如)，on condition that (如果)，given that(假設)等以及only if 和if only等引導。如：
i won’t go to the party unless i’m invited. 除非我被邀請，否則我不會去參加晚會的。
in case you need something, please don’t hesitate to let me know. 如果你需要什么東西，請不客氣地對我說。
so long as i live, i must study. 只要還活著，我就要學習。
(3) 讓步狀語從句。引導讓步狀語從句的連詞較多，常見的有
① 由even if\ even though引導，意為“即使”。如：
he will come on time even though it rains. 即使下雨,他還是會準時來的。
even though you do not like it, you must do it. 即使你不喜歡這工作，你也得做。
② how\ what\ who\ which…+ ever = no matter how\ what\ who\ which…引導，意為“無論……”。如：
he can answer the question however hard it is. 不管問題有多難他都能回答。
no matter what \ whatever you may do, do it well. 不論你做什么，好好地做。
whichever side wins, i shall be satisfied. 不論哪一邊勝，我都高興。
③由though\ although\ while\ as引導，意為“雖然，盡管”。如：
though they may not succeed, they will still try.即使他們可能不會成功，但他們仍努力嘗試。
although my uncle is old, he looks very strong and healthy. 我的叔叔雖然老了，但他看上去還是很健壯。
while i like the color of the hat, i do not like its shape. 我雖然喜歡這頂帽子的顏色，但卻不喜歡它的樣式。
cold as it was, they went on working. 盡管天氣很冷，他們仍不停地工作。
④ 由once引導，意為“一旦”。如：
once printed, this book will be very popular! 一旦出版，這本書將會非常暢銷！
once you begin you must continue. 你一旦開始, 便不可停下來。
⑤ 由in case引導，意為“萬一，如果”。如：
take a hat with you in case the sun is very hot. 倘若太陽很利害，你就把帽子戴上。
