(1)情態(tài)動(dòng)詞(aux.v)，意為“需要”。
①此時(shí)常用于否定句和疑問(wèn)句中。一般不用于肯定句中。
you needn’t worry.we are quite safe.
你沒(méi)有必要擔(dān)心。我們很安全。
—need i stay here longer?
——我需要再待在這兒?jiǎn)幔?br>—no，you needn’t.
——不，你不需要。
②當(dāng)其用于need not have done結(jié)構(gòu)中時(shí)，意為“本來(lái)不必……”。表示過(guò)去已經(jīng)發(fā)生的事情，事實(shí)上沒(méi)有必要。
you needn’t have got there so early.
你本來(lái)不必這么早到那兒的。(事實(shí)上早到了。)
(2)作實(shí)義動(dòng)詞的用法
need sth.需要……to do...需要做……doing...＝need to be done...……需要被做
注意：need＋v.­ing表“……需被做”時(shí)，v.­ing形式用主動(dòng)形式，而動(dòng)詞不定式用被動(dòng)形式to be done表示。
