1. show the following sentences on the screen and ask students to put them in the right order to make a paragraph.

a. he said that chocolate and cheese can often give you migraine.
b. i see lights in front of my eyes and i have to sleep in a dark room.
c. he examined me and asked me questions about my symptoms.
d. for three years, i have had very bad headaches about three or four times a month.

2. students work in pairs to discuss zhou kai’s cold, i. e. the cause, symptoms as well as the treatment of his cold.
3. a speech relay for the whole class is suggested. the title can be zhou kai’s cold. each student may speak out a sentence for another one to continue with. the purpose of this activity is to train their logical thinking.
4. write a paragraph about a small health problem that they have had. you may wish to remind them of the following points:

1. pre-reading
1)elicit students’ previous knowledge about the situation of health care in china by relating the things concerning health care that happened in our real life. for example, you may wish to mention the incident in which a couple tied to each other jumped into the river because they can not afford the expensive medical expenses.
2)encourage students to discuss the health care system in some other countries such as britain, america and canada, which aims to prepare them for the reading of the passage.
2. while reading
1)ask students to read out the questions that they have to answer.
2)a discussion in pairs to bring out the main idea of each paragraph.
paragraph 1: a general introduction to the health care system.
paragraph 2: the health care system in britain.
paragraph 3: the health care system of america.
paragraph 4: the characteristics of the health care system in canada.
3. post reading
1)divide students into a few groups and have them discuss the similarities and differences of the health care system among the three countries, britain, america and canada. after the discussion, they are required to fill out the following table.
