1.excuse me, i’m sorry與i beg your pardon
三者都有“對不起，請原諒”的意思，但用法有區別。
（1）下列情景中要用excuse me：
① 向別人問路、問時間時。 excuse me! where are the washrooms?
② 當你詢問別人是否準許你做某事時。 excuse me！can i put my bike here?
③ 當你向別人打聽某人（某事）時或當你要證實對方是不是某人 時。
---excuse me！are you mr. black ? ---no, i’m not.
（2）i’m sorry常用來表示自己犯了某種過錯，也可表示“遺憾”，如對別人的不幸有所表示或不滿足對方的要求等。
i’m sorry for giving you so much trouble.
（3）i beg your pardon可用于（正式場合）：
① 做錯事而道歉（比i’m sorry更正式，也可說pardon me）
② 談話中提出異議之前
③ 沒聽清對方的話，希望對方重復一遍時（可說pardon me或pardon，可用問號，說時用升調）
④ 用來引起地方的注意

2.問路和指路的常用句型：
（1）向別人問路時，可以用一般疑問句提出，也可用特殊疑問句提問。常用的表達方式 有：
① is there a...near here?
② where is...?
③ how can i get to...?
④ which is the way to...?
⑤ can you tell me the way to...?
⑥ can you tell me how i get to...?
出于禮貌，應先說excuse me，然后再提問。
（2）為別人指路時，可以用以下句子：
① go/walk along this road/street.沿著這條路走。
② take the first turning on the left/right.在第一個拐彎處左轉/右轉。
③ it’s about...meter(s) from here.大約離這兒有。。。米。
指路時，要根據對方問路時所用的句型恰當地作出回答。如果知道，可以指點方向；如果不知道，可以說：i’m sorry. i don’t know.這時問路者仍應有禮貌地向對方表示謝意，說thank you anyway /all the same.還是要謝謝你。
---excuse me. where is the bookshop, please?
---sorry, i don’t know.
---thank you all the same.
3.at, beside, by與near
(1)at“靠近”，往往意為著有目的、有意識的靠近，而by, beside, near只意味著“靠近”。
he sat at the desk. he wanted to read.
(2)beside“在。。。旁邊”；by(=just at t he side of)“就在。。。旁邊”。兩者一般可通用。但by比beside語氣較強些，并多用于日常用語中。
there is a hospital beside/by the river.
注意：指“在某人身邊”時，多用beside。
the little boy is standing beside his mother.
(3)near“在。。。附近”或“離。。。不遠”，它表示的距離要比by/beside表示的距離遠些。
we live near the sea.(表示離海邊有些距離)
we live by/beside the sea.(表示海就在身邊)
