teaching goals:
1. to learn the grammar – predicative clauses and subject clauses.
2. to enable ss to use predicative clauses and subject clauses freely.
teaching procedures:
step 1. revision
ask ss to try to translate the following sentences.
(1) 令我感到高興的是,當我多年以后回顧大學校園生活時,我仍能夠回想起和你一起接受學生會訓練的日子。
(2) 當歌星出現(xiàn)時觀眾歡呼起來。
suggested answers:
(1) i’m pleased that years from now, when i look back at my life on campus, i can still think about/of the days when we received training in the student council.
(2) the crowd cheered when the pop singer appeared.
step 2. grammar (1)—predicative clauses
1. ask ss to take a look at these sentences and then give them some explanation about predicative clauses.
(1) the prom was very attractive.
(2) the boy standing over there is my classmate.
(3) my belief is that he’s got a health problem.
(4) the problem is how we do it.
explanation:
● 定義:表語位于系動詞之后,表語從句是用作表語的句子,用來對主語進行解釋、說明。
● 結構:表語從句常用結構是主語+系動詞+表從。常見的連系動詞有:be, look, remain, become, turn, get, go, seem, feel, smell, taste等。
● 引導詞:常見的引導表語從句的詞有:that(不可省略) , whether, what, who, which, when, where, how, why, as, as if , as though.(但不能用 if)
● 當主語為idea, advice, order, suggestion, demand, request等時,謂語常用(should) + 動詞原形。
● 用陳述句語序。
2. ask ss to tell which sentences are predicative clauses.
(1) we don’t know where to go.

(3) my opinion is that you should read more articles.
(4) i am not the man i used to be.
(5) that’s how we make it.
(6) the world is becoming what we want it to be.
(7) the factory is located on the place where we used to go.
suggested answers:
sentence 3, 5, 6 are predicative clauses.
