1.make some enlarged photos of the map with routes marked. ask students to work in groups of four. ask each student to choose a route and talk about it. then ask one student from each group to tell the others about the route they choose.

1.introduce the concept of international cities. provide students with a world map, showing them the location of bj, tokyo and bangkok.
2.show some postcards of bj, tokyo and bangkok to class. circle them around class to let students have a rough idea what these cities look like.
3.introduce new vocabulary, eg. international, palace, department, temple and sightseeing.
4.draw a compass on the board. label and review the four directions (east, west, north and south) first. then label the other four directions as well, north-east, north-west, south-east and south-west.
