一般動詞過去式的基本句型如下：
1. 肯定句：主語+ 動詞的過去式~
2. 否定句：主語+ did not + 動詞原形~
3. 疑問句：did + 主語 + 動詞原形~？
4. 特殊疑問句：when/ where/ why / who/ which/ how did + 主語 + 動詞原形~？
注意各個特殊疑問詞的意思及其問答方式，例如：
（1）when did you get up this morning ? at six.
今天早晨你幾點鐘起床的？ 六點鐘。
（2）how many subjects did you study last term? 上學期你們學習幾門功課？
we studied seven. 我們學習七門課。
（3）when did he die? 他什么時候去世的？
he died in 1919. 他1919年去世的。
（4）why didn’t they want them? 他們為什么不想要他們（來修鐵路）?
because they wanted a chinese engineer for a chinese railroad.
因為他們希望由一位中國工程師來建中國的鐵路。
（5）how long did the space flight last?航天飛行持續了多久?
eg. it last 21 hours. 持續了21個小時

句中the pilot和yang liwei 是同位語，with a wife and a young son 是介詞短語作定語,修飾前面的名詞。
