以ch，sh，s，o，x，結尾的動詞，在詞尾加-es : teaches，washes，goes，passes以輔音字母加y結尾的動詞，先將y變i加-es : studies，tries以元音字母加y結尾的動詞，在詞尾加-s : stays，plays 五. 動詞過去式的變化：在動詞原形后加-ed : watched以輔音字母加y結尾的動詞，先將y變i再加ed : studied以e 結尾的動詞，直接加-d : liked以重讀閉音節結尾且結尾只有一個輔音字母的，雙寫此輔音字母后加-ed : stopped還有一些不規則變化：run-run，buy- bought，fall-fell 【典型例題】1. ___________ the street, there is a huge department. （a）a. at the end of b. in the end of c. at the end d. in the end at the end of 后加名詞，構成地點狀語，表示在……的盡頭，in the end 是時間狀語，表示“最后”2. we __________ that we can’t finish the work. （c）a. are afraid of b. were afraid of c. are afraid d. were afraid be afraid of 害怕……，be afraid that 恐怕……，本題由后面的can’t 可知是一般現在時態，意為：我們恐怕不能完成這項工作。
