( last class, we learned some information about lantau island, we knew there have been many changes in lantau island. who can say something about it?) step 2.presentation 1.teacher presents the subject of the conversation and asks students to talk about changes in their own lives in brief and compare the past with the present. (nowadays, the world is changing quickly every day. guannan is also changing quickly, such as, people bridge has been pushed down, a new one is coming up. of course , our lives are changing quickly. can you talk about some changes in your lives?) step 3.study teacher explains the context of millie and sandy’s conversation about changes in growing up and moving from primary to secondary school . (just now, we talked about some changes in our lives. now millie and sandy are also talking about changes in their lives. do you want to know what they are talking about.) step 4.listening help students understand the meaning of conversation listen to the tape and answer the following questions : a. how did millie go to school in primary school ? b. what about sandy? c. how has she come to school since millie started secondary school? d. what does millie like doing after class? step 5.practice practise millie and sandy’s conversation and ask a few pairs of students to role-play it. step 6.production 1.divide the class into pairs and talk about the changes in their lives using millie and sandy’s conversation as a model. 2.give students a few minutes to practise conversations and then ask two or three pairs to present their conversations to the class. step 7.using a dictionary 1.teacher presents a passage with some new words and asks students if they want to understand the passage how they solve the new words. guide students to say out ‘we may use a dictionary.’ eg: a small car can hold four persons and a large car can hold six persons but it is very crowded. a van hold seven persons easily, so a family with three children could ask their grandparents to go on a holiday travel. they could all travel together. 2.tell students ‘ if we want to use a dictionary effectively, it is very important to know the sequence of letters in the alphabet.’ 3. ask students to call out the letters of alphabet(a-z) in order. 4.ask one student to say a word that begins with ‘a’ . the next student says a word that begins with ‘b’ and so on . 5.take out a dictionary and ask students to look up the new words in the passage. eg : crowded, hold, van. 6. look at the passage, ask students to look up the two words in the passage with the same letter ,eg: travel, together. and then ask students which word should come first if they were in alphabetical order .at last, tell students if the first letter is the same, we look at the second letter. step 8.practise 1.ask students to complete part a by themselves. 2.check the answers ( ask one student to come up and write the words on the board in alphabetical order.) 3.teacher explains what guide words are and why they make it easier to use a dictionary. 4.ask students where they think guide words appear. 5.ask students to check the dictionary and tell teacher whether ‘fall’ or ‘fast’ is the first word on the spread. 6.ask students to finish part b and then check answers. step 9. exercise 一.using a dictionary mr wu has written an article .there are some words lily doesn’t know. arrange the words bold in alphabetical order to help lily find them in the dictionary: one evening, ming was sitting with her mother ,father, grandfather and grandmother eating dinner. suddenly, the light bulb above the table went out and the room became very dark. ming’s mum asked her if she would be helpful and go up to the attic to find a new light bulb. ming lit a candle and carefully walked out of the dark kitchen, up the stairs, towards the attic door. as the door opened, she could see that the light bulbs were on top of an old wooden box. ming felt curious about what was in the box , so she lifted the lid only to find an old photo album inside………. 1______ 2_______ 3_______4________5_______ 6_______ 7_________ step 10. homework write an article to describe the changes in your hometown ( not less than 80 words )date: mar. 5 主備人:段新平
