一. 重點單詞
1. forgive vt. 原諒；寬恕
please forgive me—i didn’t mean to be rude.
i’ll never forgive you for what you have done wrong to your parents.
辨析：forgive, excuse和pardon
excuse常指原諒輕微的過錯（用于問路，問事；表示失禮；糾正別人的話；在打噴嚏、打嗝時；插話；表示異議等場合的客套話）。
forgive 有很濃的個人感情色彩，語氣較重。
pardon指饒恕嚴重過錯或法律上的犯罪。
excuse me, but i must say you are completely wrong.
the government pardoned the criminal.政府赦免了那個罪犯。
2. satisfy vt.使滿足；使滿意；符合（達到）標準 satisfaction n.
just to satisfy my curiosity, how much did you pay for your car?
it is by no means easy to satisfy everyone. 要滿足每一個人絕非易事。
looking at a beautiful painting always gives one satisfaction. 觀賞一幅美麗的圖畫使人心滿意足。
聯想記憶：
satisfy the eye悅目
satisfy the people’s needs滿足人民的需要
satisfy one’s desire(curiosity)滿足欲望
be satisfied with sth. / sb. 對……感到滿意
with satisfaction滿意地
satisfactory adj.令人滿意的（to），圓滿的；符合要求的

3. gain vt.獲得；得到。該詞有三種含義
（1）表示經過努力一點一點地獲得自己渴望的東西
gain experience, fame/other’s respect, love, trust獲得經驗、名望/別人的尊敬、愛戴、信任
he has gained rich experience in these years.
（2）表示速度、重量等慢慢增加
he gained weight after recovery from his illness.康復后他的體重增加了。
the plane quickly gained height after it took up.飛機起飛后迅速增加飛行高度
（3）（鐘，表）走快
this clock gains five minutes a day. 這只鐘每天快5分鐘。
拓展：

4. apologize vi.道歉；辯白
i must apologize for not being able to meet you. 我必須因沒能接你而向你道歉。
拓展：
apologize to sb. for sth. 因某事（為做了某事）向某人道歉
apologize for oneself為自己辯解或辯護
make an apology to sb. for sth.為某事向某人道歉
練習：你太無理了，必須向你姐姐道歉。

5. balance
（1）v.權衡；對比，使（重量、重要性或影響）均衡
