to spread the chinese culture and civilization, the torch for the beijing olympic games was designed to resemble an ancient paper scroll. as one of the four great inventions of china, paper has spread civilization to the whole world through the ancient silk road. and the whole torch is colored red and silver, embodying (showing) both traditional and modern chinese elements. more distinctively, the lucky clouds that are said to bring blessings and harmony are covering the surface of the torch. not only beautiful, the torch is so well-designed that it can withstand low pressure, low temperature and strong winds as well as heavy rain.
