the teacher gives the students several minutes to go over what they have learnt in unit 6.
step ii practicing
get the students to do the exercises on pages 59-60.
1. vocabulary
t: now let’s do some exercises about the vocabulary of this unit. turn to page 59. finish off the exercises of part 1 building your vocabulary.
2. grammar
t: let’s review the grammar: past participles. they include 2 groups, regular verb forms and irregular verb forms. first turn to page 60 and recite the past participles listed at the bottom of the page. after that, finish off the exercises grammar in use on page 59.
the teacher can use the method:“catch this if you can” to practice the past participles. it is a good form to review what they learnt and at the same time to inspire their passion to learn english,which will make the class lively and lovely.
purpose: to increase students’ use of simple sentences, to practice numbers, months, or days.
skills: listening and speaking
materials: list of verbs and nouns and a sock or scarves knotted into a “ball”.
procedure:1. place the list of verbs and nouns on the blackboard – for example, verbs such as “like, eat, buy, see, and write” and nouns such as “apple, rice, watermelon, cake, and book”.
2. have students stand in a large circle facing each other.
3. the teacher begins by calling out a verb (for example-eat) and tossing the ball to any student.
4. the student must catch the ball and respond in the first person by saying, “i have eaten (an apple)” or “i have eaten (cake)”or any other appropriate noun.
5.the student then say a verb (for example - drive) and throw the ball to someone else who must catch the ball and respond appropriately in the first person with an appropriate sentence (for example – i have driven a bus).
6. continue with this pattern until the students feel comfortable with it and can say the sentences confidently.
variation 1: once the students demonstrate their ability with one type of sentence, you can modify the drill in any number of ways – by shifting into past tense (i ate an apple, i drove a car), or past participle (i have driven for 10 years) or future tense (i will drive a car) or by changing the pronouns.
