四、表語從句
表語從句位于主句的連系動詞之后，在非正式文體中引導詞that可以省略。
that’s not what i want. 那不是我要的。
that’s why i have come.那就是我為什么來了。
my opinion is that things will improve.我的意見是事情會好起來的。
one advantage of solar energy is that it will never run out.
太陽能的一個優點是永遠也不會枯竭。
the truth is that he didn’t really try. 實際情況是他沒有真正努力。
the problem is who is to pay and when we can start.
問題是誰來付帳、我們又何時開始。
the fact is that he didn’t notice the car until too late.
事實是他注意到車時已經太晚了。

此外，表語從句還可由as if （好像）引導。

now let’s do some translation:

一、名詞性從句連接詞的選用：
⒈ if 和whether:
whether 和if在引導賓語從句時，意思是“是否”，這時if并沒有“假設，如果”的意思；引導主語從句、表語從句、同位語從句以及介詞后之賓語從句，不能用if, 只能用whether；多數情況下引導動詞之賓語從句可用if 或 whether； whether引導的從句中可以有or not， if 引導的從句一般沒有or not。
