聽完全段對話后得出整體印象，可明確本段對話的主題要義是談人的睡眠習慣。女士的第一句話就點出：david has a strange but highly effective way of sleeping,因此，第6題選b。女士的第二句話清楚表明a total of four hours of sleep each day，于是第7題就知道答案選a。在對話中那位男士最后說not every-one is david ,i guess。由于可以推斷他們的態度和觀點：每個人的睡眠習慣是不一樣的。因此，答案選c。
（五）眼明手快，各器官協調并用
在聽第六到第十段長對話或獨白時，考生不可能記住錄音材料中涉及到的全部信息，特別是一些數據、時間、地點、人名等。所以考生就應做到耳聽、眼讀、腦思和手劃同時進行。有必要時，考生還要對一些非常重要且易忘的信息做速記。速記時遵循的原則是簡單、易懂、快捷，可采用字母、縮寫、符號、漢字等形式，具體形式因時而異，因人而異。
如第六段聽力材料中的最后兩句：

需要注意的是，“速記”不是聽寫，而是用最快的方式寫下一個單詞或一、二個數字，以便在第二次聽錄音時根據問題和選項進行校對和修正，確定選項。
