apply[e5plai] v.1.申請：i’m going to apply for that job they advertised. 他們登廣告招聘的那個職位，我打算申請。2.應用，使用，適用：these methods apply to learning english. 這些方法適用于英語學習。3.集中精神，專注：she applied herself to learning english. 她專心學習英語。
appoint[e5print] vt.1.委派，任命：he was appointed ambassador. 他已被任命為大使。2.指定，約定(時間、地點等)：let’s appoint a time for the meeting. 我們約定一個開會的時間。
appointment[e5pcintment] n.1.[c,u]約會，約定：keep (break) an appointment 守(違)約 / he had an appointment to see the head of school. 他約定去見校長。2.[c]職務，職位：he has an appointment in the foreign office at present. 他目前在外交部任職。
appreciate[e5pri:fieit] vt. 1.欣賞，鑒賞：it’s very hard for the children to appreciate the poetry. 讓孩子們欣賞這樣的詩很難。2.感激：thanks for your help. we did appreciate it. 謝謝你的幫助。我們真的很感激。3.意識到：we appreciate the danger ahead. 我們意識到危險臨頭。
【說明】1.后接動詞時用動名詞，不用不定式：we shall appreciate hearing from you again. 能再次收到你的來信，我們將十分感激。2.表示感激時，其賓語通常是 help, kindness 等表“事物”的名詞，不能是指人的名詞(比較：thank后接要感謝的人)。3.是及物動詞，其后必須有賓語，如下句中的 it 不能省略：i would appreciate it very much if you would help me with it. 如果你能幫助我做這事，我將十分感激。

【用法】表示靠近或走近某人或某事物時，可直接用作及物動詞，直接說 approach a place 即可，不要按漢語意思誤加介詞 to, near 等。
