一場(chǎng)大風(fēng)暴即將來(lái)臨。
3.on the third day i was struggling through stormy weather and during the next week the wind grew stronger and i found myself spending a day in my tent.
第三天我在風(fēng)暴中掙扎，。第二周風(fēng)刮得更猛了我發(fā)現(xiàn)自己終日在帳蓬里。
①struggle在這里為“掙扎”的意思。如：
seeing a girl struggling in the river, he jumped into the water to save her.
看到一個(gè)女孩在河掙扎，他跳進(jìn)水中去救她。
②find oneself ……的意思是“發(fā)現(xiàn)自己（處于某種狀態(tài)）；不知不覺(jué)地…”例如：
when day broke, we found ourselves in a village at the foot of the mountain.
天亮?xí)r，我們發(fā)現(xiàn)自己來(lái)到了那座山腳下的一個(gè)村子里。
suddenly i found myself at the water’s edge.
我忽然發(fā)現(xiàn)自己站在水邊了。
then i found myself surrounded by half a dozen boys.
然后我突然發(fā)現(xiàn)六個(gè)男孩圍著自己。
4.i had traveled only two hours one day when the winds increased so much that i had to put my tent up before the wind became too strong.
一天，我剛走了兩個(gè)小時(shí)，突然狂風(fēng)大作，我只好趁風(fēng)力還不算太大之前，支起帳蓬。
①when 表示過(guò)早發(fā)生某事（�？勺g為“還沒(méi)（剛剛）……就”）。例如：
i had hardly opened the door when the dog barked.
我還沒(méi)把門(mén)打開(kāi)，狗就叫了起來(lái)。
the students hadn’t played football long when the bell rang.
學(xué)生們足球沒(méi)踢一會(huì)兒，鈴就響了。
when還表示突然發(fā)生某事（常譯為“……正在……忽然”）。例如：
a few days later, i was moving forward over a slope that seemed safe when suddenly without warning my world dropped out from under my skis.
幾天以后，我正在一個(gè)似乎安全的斜坡上前行，突然，毫不預(yù)兆，滑雪板下的大地陷下去了。
from常與另一個(gè)介詞短語(yǔ)連用。如：
the moon appeared from behind the clouds. 月亮從云層后面露出了臉。
a rat ran out from under the bed. 一只老鼠從床底下跑了出來(lái)。
he swam from across the river. 他從河那邊游了過(guò)來(lái)。
②put up 作“舉起，抬起，搭起蓋房子”講。例如：
they are putting up several new houses on our street.
我們這條街上正在蓋幾棟新房子。
put up your hands if you have any questions.
有問(wèn)題請(qǐng)舉手。
③…before …
(1)  趁……; 沒(méi)來(lái)得及……就……；還未……就……；不到……就……；……才……；
e. g. 1）please write it down before you forget it .  趁 你還沒(méi)忘把它記下來(lái)。
2）she wanted to watch it .however ,before she could think twice ,the water was upon her .她想看水的動(dòng)靜，但 還沒(méi)有 回過(guò)神來(lái)，洪水便 逼近了她。( book1. unit4. reading para. 1 )
3）before they reached the house ,a new great wave came ,sweeping down trees ,and sweeping them down too .他們 還沒(méi)到 屋子，第二個(gè)大浪沖到，推倒了樹(shù)木，也沖倒了他倆。( para3.)
4)we had sailed four days and four nights before we saw land . 我們航行了四天四夜 才 看到陸地。
