單元分析(unit analysis)
(一) 單元地位(unit position)
1. 本課對美國青少年犯罪率上升的原因做以分析，對青少年犯罪的懲罰和改造進行探討；并通過美國一家青少年勞役營（boot camp）進行詳細觀察和描述。改造后的青少年踏入社會后能否獲得新生將是更大的挑戰。
2. 本課主要圍繞犯罪原因和懲罰的方式探討。對青少年的更加傾向用改造來代替懲罰—青少年勞役營。并對青少年勞役營具體的改造方法進行介紹。
3. 本課的structure介紹了英語的構詞法—派生（derivation）。通過對一個單詞加上相應的前綴（prefix）或后綴(suffix),從而派生出不同詞性但意義相關的單詞。了解這種構詞方法可以放大學生的詞匯量，提高閱讀能力。
4. 設計詞根，對相關的單詞進行前綴和后綴的變化。讓學生發現不同前綴或后綴對單詞意義變化的影響。
(二) 單元目標(unit target)
1 通過構詞法拓寬英語的詞匯量，從而提高閱讀速度，準確把握理解內容。
2 分析青少年犯罪的原因，提出應對青少年犯罪的方法。
3 談論自己對青少年犯罪的懲罰或改造的理解和建議
組織辯論：懲罰---改造
如何防微杜漸，做遵紀守法的青少年和公民。
