ⅱ. street “街道”指由建筑物夾成的路。無road用法廣泛。
① don’t play in the street.
ⅲ. way 不是指實實在在的路，而是指達到特定的地點所須經過的地方。與方向有關。如：
① it is a long way from here to the station. 從這兒到車站有一大段路程。
② which is the shortest way there?到那兒去哪條路最近？
§298 say/ speak/ talk/ tell
ⅰ. say “說、講”普通用語，指用言語表達思想，強調所說的內容。如：
① what did he say? 他說了些什么？
② he said that it was true. 他說那是真實的。
ⅱ. speak “說、講”可表示以任何一種方式說話。它著重于說話這一動作本身。而不強調所說的內容。為不及物動詞。作及物動詞時與表語言的詞連用。如：
① please speak more slowly. 請說得慢一些。
② the baby is learning to speak. 這小孩在學說話。
③ she can speak english fluently. 她英語說得很流利。
ⅲ. talk “談話、講話”，通常表連貫地與別人談話。強調談話這一動作，而不是內容。如：
① he was talking to a friend. 他在和一個朋友談話。
② he went on talking for a long time, but he spoke so fast that few of us could catch what he said. 他滔滔不絕地講了半天，但是他說得太快，我們幾乎沒有什么人能聽懂他說的些什么。
③ she is always talking nonsense. 她總愛講廢話。
ⅳ. tell “告訴、講述”指將某事講給別人聽。它有時還有“吩咐、命令”等含義。如：
① he told the news to everybody in the village. 他把這消息告訴了村子里的每個人。
② she told me not to write the letter. 她叫我不要寫信了。
