23. but in the twentieth century organizations were formed to give voice to groups that do not have a voice to speak for themselves. 但是在20世紀成立了一些組織為那些無法出聲說話的群體代言。(p. 31 第四段 第3行)
★ give voice to意為“提出(意見)”“吐露(感情)”。如：① only jack dared to give voice to his discontent.只有杰克敢于表達他的不滿。② he gave voice to his anger in his letter to me.他在給我的信中表達了他的憤怒。
【注】有關voice的詞組很多，常見的有：
raise one's voice放大聲音講話，
with one voice異口同聲地，
at the top of one's voice高聲地，
lose one's voice發不出聲音，
keep one's voice down說話聲要小一點等等。
如：① i don't want to have to raise my voice to you again. 我不想再對你大聲嚷嚷。② keep your voice down, and don't wake up the sleeping child.聲音小一點，不要吵醒熟睡的小孩。③ with one voice, they agreed to go on strike. 他們一致同意繼續罷工。④ he gave lessons at the top of his voice.他放開嗓門講課。⑤ i've got a bad cold, and i've lost my voice. 我得了重感冒，嗓子都發不出聲來了。
24. at first sight 乍一看, 初見之下 (p.32 tips 第一點)
at first sight their demands seemed reasonable. 乍看之下，他們的要求似乎是合理的。
拓展：與sight相關的常見短語：
(1) lose one's sight失去視力；喪失視力the poor boy lost his sight at the age of five. 這個可憐的男孩5歲時就失去了視力。
(2) catch sight of (突然)看見 i was walking along the country road when i caught sight of a fox catching a cock in its mouth. 我正在鄉間小路上走著，突然看見一只狐貍嘴里叼著一只公雞。
(3) lose sight of 看不見 we lost sight of the birds, for they flew high above the sky. 我們看不見那些鳥了，因為它們在天空中飛得很高。
(4) in/within sight在視野之內；看得見we looked to the south and the train was in/within sight. 我們向南望去，看見了那列火車。
(5) out of sight 在視野之外，看不見he stood at the airport and looked until the plane was out of sight in the sky.他站在機場上看著，直到飛機消失在空中。
(6) have good/bad/poor sight視力好，視力不好 have near/short sight患近視; i have good sight. 我視力很好。
