▲ be aware of (意識到；知道)
(1) adj. 意識到的，知道 are you aware of the difficulty?你知道那項困難嗎?
(2) 跟從句時，省去of he was not aware that he was in danger. 他沒有覺察到自己處境危險。she was not aware how much her husband earned.她不知道她丈夫掙多少錢。
(3) aware為表語形容詞，前面不能用very修飾，習慣用well，quite等詞。i am quite (well) aware how you must feel.我很能體會你會有什么樣的感受。
拓展：be tired of 厭煩……；be afraid of… 害怕……；be short of… 缺少……；be sure of... 對……有把握；be full of… 充滿的……；be proud of… 以……為自豪

aware意為“意識到”“覺察到”，是形容詞，多用作表語，后接介詞of，of后通常接名詞、代詞、動名詞或名詞性從句，接名詞性從句應用疑問詞引導，這時of可省去。① are you aware of the problems involved? 你有沒有意識到這里存在的問題? ② he was not aware of her presence till she spoke to him.直到她對他說話，他才意識到她的存在。③ he become aware of jane’s coming to- wards him.他覺察到簡向他走來。④ we were quite aware (of) how you would respond to our terms.我們十分清楚你能對我們提出的條件作怎樣的反應。⑤ i was not aware (of) how dangerous it was.我不知道這有多危險。
【注】aware后可接that引導的從句，這時不可再用of。如: ① i'm well aware that this is not the perfect solution. 我非常清楚這不是完美的解決辦法。② he was painfully aware that the deadline had passed. 他痛苦地意識到限期已過。③ you must be aware that what you ale doing is illegal.你必須明白你做的事是非法的。
【注】be aware后也可以直接跟連接副詞how引起的從句。如：① i'm quite aware how you must feel.我完全明白你會有什么感覺。② i'm too sleepy to be aware how cold it was. 我太困了，沒意識到天有多冷。)
21. they all knew that for each new invention that works, there are at least ten that don't. 他們都知道，每有一個成功的發明就至少有十個是不成功的。 (p.60第二段第四行)
▲ 此處介詞for表示對比或比例。常與each，every或數詞連用。意思是“每……就”“與……成比例”。如：① for every enemy, he has fifty friends.他每有一個敵人就有五十個朋友。② plant three trees for every one that is cut down.每砍一棵樹就要種三棵樹。③ the prisoners of war were exchanged man for man.一對一地交換了戰俘。④ let's translate the sentence word for word.讓我們逐字翻譯這個句子。
