一、定位
input-based,閱讀理解為主。
二、教學目標
1.引導學生了解更多不尋常的success and successful people,開闊視野。
2.指導學生閱讀這種人物傳記式的文章,通過如實回答問題得出答案或者結論。
3.知道學生運用一些閱讀學習策略。培養閱讀微技能,如:略讀、尋讀,找出關鍵信息等。
4.通過閱讀激發學生對科學探究的興趣;讓學生了解“成功”來自不斷的探索和努力的工作,了解歷史人物對科學發明和公共服務的貢獻。
三、教學環節設計
1.revision
1)check the answers to the exercises in book b(yesterday’s homework)
2)get the ss to say something about more types of success and successful people.(before class, assign some students to find some information about benjamin franklin. ask one of them to say something about benjamin franklin)
2.leading-in
1)show a photo of benjamin franklin to the class. say benjamin franklin was a successful man in history .let’s check how much we know about him.
2)ss finish the quiz in b1 first. learn something about benjamin franklin. learn the new word “the lightning conductor”
3)ask: do you know anything more about benjamin franklin? and can you pick out the things he invented or developed. present the new words: inventor, interest, develop, development, nowadays, bifocals, pavement.
3.reading-b2
1)read the story quickly and find out what kind of success benjamin franklin gained.
2)get ss to share their ideas in groups and see if they have the same understanding of the whole passage.
3)get the ss to read the passage silently and tell if the sentences in b2 are true or false.
4)deal with some useful expressions or difficult sentences.
4.discussion
ss discuss in pairs: what is required to be successful? get some ss to tell the class his/her opinions, summarize: what is required to be successful? exploring constantly and working hard

6.get ss to make a dialogue with his/her partner: one is benjamin franklin, the other is a reporter. the reporter is supposed to interview benjamin franklin.

4) interview your parent, relatives or friends. find out what success means to them.
