▲ pull up
(1) 此處意為“豎起”“把……拉上來”。如：① she can't climb very well. we had to pull her up. 她不善攀登，我們只得把她拉上來。② the boy pulled his sledge up the hill. 男孩把雪撬拉上山來。③ i pulled him up out of the water. 我把他從水里拉上來。 ④ we pulled up the weeds by the roots. 我們把草連根拔起。
(2) pull up可作“(車子)停下”翻譯。如：① we had not gone many miles when we were pulled up the police.我們還沒走多少里就被警察攔住了。② the ear pulled up in front of the hotel. 汽車在賓館前面停了下來。③the policeman pulled up the motorist and asked to see his licence.警察讓那個騎摩托車的人停下來，要看他的執照。④ he pulled up his horse outside the inn for lunch.他在旅館外面下馬，準備吃午飯。
(3) pull up還有“阻止”“斥責”之意。如：① jack talked rudely to mother, and father pulled him up.杰克對母親講話粗魯，遭到父親的訓斥。② you should pulled those children up about their table manners. 那些孩子就餐時舉止不好，你應該訓訓他們。③ the chairman pulled him up. 主席制止了他的發言。④ i felt i had to pull her up on her lateness.我覺得我必須告訴他不要再遲到了。
(4) pull up亦可作“拉近”“追上”解釋。如：① pull up a chair and sit here with us at this table. 拉張椅子過來和我們坐一張桌兒。② the boat pulled up alongside us.那條船趕上來與我們并行了。③ the second runner managed to pull up with the leading runner and finally won the race. 跑在第二的人設法趕上跑在最前面的人，并最終贏得了比賽。④ if you can pull up your english grammar，you will stand a good chance of succeeding in the examination. 如果你把英語語法趕上來，你就有希望在考試中取得成功。
