(1) prove在本課中是及物動詞，意為“證明”“證實”.用于被動語態。如：① it has been proved that the practice can only do good.事實證明這樣做只有好處。② his guilt was clearly proved.他的罪行被清楚地證實了。③ that has got to be proved by further experiment.那還有待進一步的實踐來證實。④ it was soon proved that he was a guilty man.很快證實他就是罪犯。
(2) prove作為及物動詞時，可后接名詞、代詞、從句和復合結構。如：① we have proved our courage in battle. 我們已在戰爭中證實了自己的勇氣。(接名詞) ② can you prove that to the court?你能向法庭證實那一點嗎?(接代詞) ③ who can prove it? 誰能證實這一點呢?(接代詞) ④ look at these documents. they will prove that we are telling the truth.看看這些文件，它們可以證明我們講的都是事實。(接從句) ⑤ can you prove what you were doing at 9: 00 last night? 你能證明昨天晚上九點鐘你在干什么嗎? (接從句) ⑥ time would prove me right.時間會證明我是對的。(接復合結構，形容詞作賓補) ⑦ one mad action is not enough to prove a man mad.干一件瘋事并不足以證明一個人就是瘋子。(接復合結構，名詞作賓補)
(3) prove可作連系動詞用，解釋為“證明”“結果是”，后接形容詞、副詞、介詞短語、名詞或不定式to be。如：① the instrument has proved useful.這種儀器證明是有用的。(接形容詞) ② he proved an honest friend.事實證明他是一個誠實的朋友。(接名詞) ③ his effort, however, proved a failure. 他的努力結果都失敗了。(接名詞) ④ it will prove of little use.結果會證明，它沒有什么用。(接介詞短語) ⑤ it has proved of great help in such training. 事實證明，在這類訓練中，它很有幫助。(接介詞短語) ⑥ she may prove to be the most suitable person for the job.結果她可能是最適合干這工作的人。(接不定式to be) ⑦ it proved to be much more difficult than she had supposed.結果比她預想的要難得多。(接不定式to be)
