1. attend, join, join in, participate, take part in
這些動詞或詞組都有“參加，加入”之意。
(1)attend 側(cè)重于指參加或出席會議或?qū)W術(shù)活動等。
the meeting was well attended.
很多人出席了會議。
they had a quiet wedding -- only a few friends attended
it.
他們的婚禮靜悄悄的 — 只有幾個朋友參加。
(2)join 普通用詞。指加入黨派、團(tuán)體或游戲活動等。
he joined the army after he left the university.
他大學(xué)畢業(yè)后就參軍了。
(3)join in 指參加活動或游戲。

我能參加這個游戲嗎?
they all joined in,singing the christmas carols.
他們一起唱圣誕頌歌。
(4)participate正式用詞，特指參加團(tuán)體活動，暗示以
一個積極的角色參加。
she actively participates in local politics.

(5)take part in 側(cè)重參加某次群眾性、集體性的事
業(yè)、工作或活動，突出參加者在其中發(fā)揮一定的作
用。
he took an active part in the discussion held yesterday.
他積極參加昨天舉行的討論會。
2. act as, act like
(1) act as 的意思是“充當(dāng)”，“擔(dān)任”，相當(dāng)于serve as，
可與人或物連用，如：doctor，director，intepreter，
guide，coach，teacher，go-between，furniture，tools等
字搭配使用，as是連詞。
