【注】species可用來表示“人類”。如：① the use of nuclear weapons is a horrible threat to the species. 核武器的使用對(duì)人類是一個(gè)嚴(yán)重的威脅。② the protection of our environment will benefit the human species.保護(hù)環(huán)境有益于全人類。
【注】 species在口語中表示“種類”，相當(dāng)于a kind，a type，a sort。如：① various species of business advertise- ments on the television sometimes make tv programs rather dull. 電視上五花八門的商業(yè)廣告有時(shí)使電視節(jié)目十分乏味。②a strange species of car attracted the attention of people.一種形狀奇特的轎車引起了人們的注意。
【注】英語中還有specie這個(gè)詞，不要把它誤認(rèn)為是species的單數(shù)， 這是兩個(gè)完全不同的詞。specie意為“硬幣”。
2) yet在肯定句中的意思和用法。
▲yet一般用于否定句和疑問句，意為“還”“已經(jīng)”。如： ① i don't want to go away yet.我現(xiàn)在還不想離開。② the moon had not yet risen.月亮還沒有升起。③ i wonder if she's started yet.不知她開始了沒有。
▲在個(gè)別情況下yet也可用在肯定句中，意為“還”“又”。如：① it was too early yet to tell anything. 現(xiàn)在要說什么還為時(shí)過早。② i have a few more pages to read yet. 我還有幾頁書要看。③ much yet remains to be done. 還有很多事等著去做。
▲yet可用來表示將來還可能發(fā)生某事，意為“遲早”“終歸”。如： ① the plan may yet succeed. 這個(gè)計(jì)劃還可能成功。 ②it will be colder yet before spring comes. 春天到來之前還可能更冷一些。③ the thief will be caught yet.小偷遲早會(huì)被抓住的。
▲yet可作連詞用，意為“但是”“然而”。如：①jane said she was ill, yet i saw her in the street just now. 簡說她病了，但我剛才還看到她在街上。② i gave him all he asked for，yet he is still not satisfied. 我給了他所要的一切，但是他仍然不滿意。
▲yet也可以和and連用，表示“但是”。如：he's plea- sant enough, and yet i don't like him. 他夠招人喜歡的，但我不喜歡他。
【注】still，already和yet都有“還”“仍然”之意，但是有差別。still暗示對(duì)某事件持續(xù)時(shí)間比預(yù)料的長而感到驚訝。如：the coffee is still hot. (咖啡還是熱的。) already用于表達(dá)對(duì)某事物發(fā)生時(shí)間比預(yù)料的時(shí)間早而感到驚訝。如：the coffee is cold already.(咖啡已經(jīng)涼了。) yet一般用于否定句和疑問句中，在正式語體中有時(shí)可代替still。如：i have still/yet to hear the truth. (我仍然未被告知真相。)

▲range在本單元中作不及物動(dòng)詞用，意為“在一定范圍、幅度內(nèi)變動(dòng)”。range的此種用法無進(jìn)行時(shí)態(tài)，常與介詞from…to…或between連用。如：① sentences today range from 5 or 6 words to 70, with the majority not far from 20. 現(xiàn)在的句子長度從五、六個(gè)詞到七十個(gè)詞不等。不過大多數(shù)句子的長度在二十個(gè)字左右。② his interests ranged from chess to surfing. 他的愛好從下棋到?jīng)_浪，無所不有。③ their ages ranged from 25 to 50. 他們的年齡在二十五歲到五十歲之間。④ the temperature ranges between 0℃and 30℃.氣溫在攝氏零度到30度之間。
