▲way在此處表示“方式”，其后的定語從句的關(guān)系代詞that或in which均可省去。如：① that's the way i look at it. 這就是我對此的看法。② i don't like the way you laugh at her. 我不喜歡你那樣嘲笑她。③ people like the way he wrote. 人們喜歡他寫作的方式。④ the way you are doing it is completely crazy. 你這么個干法，簡直是瘋了。
【注】way后面除了跟省去關(guān)系代詞的定語從句外，還可以跟不定式或動名詞，兩者之間沒有重要的區(qū)別。如：①he had no way to communicate with them. 他沒有辦法和他們?nèi)〉寐?lián)系。② there is only one way of doing this properly. 只有一種辦法能把這事辦好。③ what's the way to address her? 應(yīng)以怎樣的方式稱呼她? ④ i have no way of finding out whether they are competent. 我沒辦法弄清楚他們是否勝任。
【注】在in…way作狀語時，in也可以省掉。如：① they both answered the same way. 他們都以同樣的方式回答。② i'm going to do it my way. 我要按我自己的辦法去做。③ you can't do it this way. 你不能這樣做。
▲unique意為“獨特的”“獨一無二的”。如：① she was a woman of unique talent and determination.她是個具有無與倫比的才能和決心的女人。②the stamp is unique; there are no others like it.這郵票是獨一無二的，再也沒有像這樣的了。③ the area has its own unique language. 這個地區(qū)只有一種自己的語言。④ as a writer he has his own unique style.作為作家他有其獨特的風(fēng)格。 ⑤ the young author wrote a unique book about life with city. 那位青年作家寫了一本獨特的關(guān)于這座城市生活的書。

▲ make up of常用被動式，意為“由……所組成”。如：① the train was made up of 15 coaches. 這列火車有15節(jié)車廂。② all living matter is made up of cells. 一切有生命的東西都由細(xì)胞組成。③ paper, for instance, is made up of transparent fibers.例如紙就是由透明纖維構(gòu)成的。④ new england is made up of six states. 新英格蘭包括6個州。
▲make up可作“彌補…”“賠償”“補足”解。如：① we'll do all we can to make up the economic losses. 我們要盡一切力量彌補這些經(jīng)濟(jì)損失。② this will make up for what he lacked in book knowledge. 這就可以補足他所缺少的書本知識。③ the new teacher made up for his inexperience by careful preparation for each lesson. 這位新教師每節(jié)課都認(rèn)真準(zhǔn)備，以此彌補自己的經(jīng)驗不足。
▲make up亦可作“編選”“虛構(gòu)”解。如：①these dances were made up by the students themselves. 這些舞蹈都是學(xué)生們自己編排的。② she made up an excuse to explain her absence. 她編了一套理由來解釋自己為什么缺席。③ he asked each of us to make up a dialogue. 他讓我們每人編一段對話。
