ask the students to tell their favourite tv programmes.
step 2. presentation
there is a competition to write a story for a tv programme. daniel and simon have entered it. if they want to write well, they first need to know the background and the plot of the tv programme very well.
step 3. read & answer
read the background and the plot of the tv programme, then answer the following questions:
1. who is the programme about? (the chen family)
2. how many people are there in the chen family? (four.)
3. who are they? (nancy, victor and their parents.)
4. do the children get along well? (no, they disagree all the time.)
5. what did nancy and victor argue about? (what tv programmes to watch.)
6. what happened to the remote control? (victor threw it into the table and it fell onto
nancy’s foot.)

ask the students to read the beginning of the story in part a2 on page 73, then complete it using information from the outline in part a1.
