用作主語：sophia’s having seen them did not surprise us.索菲亞已經看見了他們，但這并不使我們感到驚訝。
用作表語：what worried the child most was his not being allowed to visit his mother in the hospital.使那孩子焦慮不安的是不準許他到醫院探望他的媽媽。
在現代英語中，動名詞復合結構用作賓語時，其名詞多數用普通形式，形容詞性物主代詞也多用代詞的賓格。mind us asking…就屬這種情況。再如：
i hate people being unhappy.我不愿意人們不高興。
please say nothing about us calling.請不要（對別人）說我們來拜訪的事。

此句是個強調句型，其句型為it was+被強調部分+that+句子剩余部分。
