他們修這輛舊汽車一直修到深夜。
she has always worked hard at collective jobs.
集體的活她一向于得很賣力。
work on 還有“繼續(xù)工作；努力影響或努力說(shuō)服”之
意。
they'il work on tiil midnight.
他們將繼續(xù)工作到午夜。
we will work on those who have cheated in exam and
help them do right.
我們要對(duì)考試舞弊的人做工作，幫助他們改正。
can you work(m him to make him change his mind?
你能努力說(shuō)服他改變主意嗎?
3. cure，treat
cure 還可以用作動(dòng)詞，它與treat一詞的區(qū)別是：treat
意為“醫(yī)治；治療”，強(qiáng)調(diào)治療的動(dòng)作或醫(yī)治的過(guò)程，
不涉及治療的結(jié)果。
the dentist is treating my teeth.
牙醫(yī)正在治療我的牙齒。
which doctor is treating you for this trouble?
哪位醫(yī)生在為你治病?
some skin diseases are difficult to treat.
有些皮膚病很難醫(yī)治。
treatment 表示“治療；療法；療程”。
be under treatment 在治療中
a new treatment for cancer 癌癥新療法
treatment 專指開藥方、飲食及鍛煉等，或只是對(duì)起居
習(xí)慣方面提出建議，不過(guò)所有這些努力都是為了使
病人恢復(fù)健康。cure 意為“治愈；痊愈”，特別指病后
的恢復(fù)健康。
penicillin cured him of pneumonia.
盤尼西林治好了他的肺炎。
the new treatment cured his skin disease.
那種新療法治好了他的皮膚病。
4. likely，possible，probable
三者均表示可能性，但意思的分寸有別。possible指
客觀上有可能，但往往含有希望很小的意味；
probable 比 possible 的可能性大，表示“很可能；大
概”，有實(shí)際依據(jù)或邏輯上的合情合理；likely 是從外
表跡象進(jìn)行判斷，有可能發(fā)生的事。
lt is possible, though not probable, that he will come
tomorrow.
他明天可能來(lái)，但不一定準(zhǔn)會(huì)來(lái)。
this will only be possible when scientists have learnt a
lot about the atmosphere that surrounds the planet.
只有科學(xué)家們掌握了這顆行星周圍大氣層的更多知
識(shí)時(shí)，這才可能辦到。
the probable calise of his failure was that he had been
too tired.
他的失敗大概是太累了的緣故。
she's very likely to ring me tonight.
今晚她很可能會(huì)給我打電話。
it isn't likdy to rain.
好像不能下雨。
possible 不能用人作主語(yǔ)，也不能與人構(gòu)成復(fù)合賓
語(yǔ)。possible 常用 it is possible to do sth.；it is
possible for sb. to do sth.；it is possible that等句型。
