step 1 introduction
answer the following questions:
1) have you ever been to any exhibitions?
2) what kind of exhibitions have you ever been to?
(add: flower exhibition, painting exhibition, insect exhibition,…)
step 2 presentation
t: there is going to be a robot exhibition in sunshine town. daniel is interested in robots and has found a poster about the event. read the poster and answer the following questions:
1) when will the international robot exhibition be held?
2) where will the exhibition be held?
3) what time does the exhibition open and close?
4) what is the price of tickets?
5) what will you get if you go to the exhibition on the first day?
step 3 read and write
read the poster again and fill in the blanks with useful information.
(no.3,4,5,6,7,8 can be finished.)
step 4 listen and write
listen to the tape and complete the left blanks.
help them check the answers.
step 5 write and understand
ask the students to complete the blanks in part a3 with the useful information in part a1and a2. (let one students write down his answers on the blackboard.)
check the answers together.
ask them to translate the passage and pay more attention to the useful phrases.
step 6 listen and answer
(play the tape about the dialogue between daniel and simon, and answer the following questions:)
1) where is the robot made?
2) what is it designed to do?
3) what housework can the robot do?
4) does it get tired?
5) how long can it work?
step 7 read and act
1) ask them to practice reading the dialogue after the teacher or the tape, then read it in groups or pairs;
2) ask them to make up new dialogues like this and ask some pairs to act it out.
step 8 pronunciation
1. read the three example sentences clearly and slowly for students to listen to. ask students to repeat sentence after you paying attention to the words that is stressed.
2. play the recording for part a through once and ask students to listen carefully to the stressed words.
3. play the recording again and encourage students to imitate what they hear. ask students to read the sentences aloud.
4. explain how the stressed words affect the meanings of the sentences.
5. divide the class into pairs. ask students to read out the sentences to each other, stressing the words in bold. listen to the sentences as you walk around the class. praise areas where students perform well.
6. explain that when we speak, we can stress different words in a sentence. the words we stress can change the meanings of the sentence. write an example sentence on the blackboard: “the dog ate four tins of beans yesterday.”
