ⅱ.collect的意思是“收集、搜集、聚集”，通常指有計(jì)劃和選擇進(jìn)行收集。當(dāng)它表示一般的收集或聚集時(shí)，可與gather通用。如：
① he is collecting material for a book. 他正在聚集寫書的資料。
② i have collected some famous pictures. 我收集了一些名畫。
③ a crowd soon collected when there was a car accident. 發(fā)生了車禍的時(shí)候，立即就有一群人聚攏起來(lái)。
§132 college/ institute/ university
ⅰ.college的意思是“學(xué)院”，一般指大學(xué)內(nèi)部的學(xué)院或獨(dú)立的學(xué)院，如：
① there are many colleges at oxford and cambridge. 牛津大學(xué)和劍橋大學(xué)有很多學(xué)院。
② there are several teachers’ colleges in jiangsu province. 江蘇省有幾所師范學(xué)院。
ⅱ.institute也可以表示學(xué)院的意思，但它通常指專科性（專門的）學(xué)院，如外語(yǔ)學(xué)院（institute of foreign languages）、體育學(xué)院(physical culture institute)、航空學(xué)院（aeronautical engineering institute）等，如：
① he graduated from an institute of foreign trade. 他是外貿(mào)學(xué)院畢業(yè)的。
② she is a student of a chemical engineering institute.她是化工學(xué)院的學(xué)生。
ⅲ.university的意思是“大學(xué)”，通常指由多個(gè)學(xué)院組織而成的綜合性大學(xué)。如：

§133 competition/ game/ match
ⅰ. competition “比賽、競(jìng)爭(zhēng)”，指體能、技術(shù)、能力的競(jìng)爭(zhēng)。
he won a drawing competition. 他在圖畫比賽中獲勝。
ⅱ. game “比賽”指有一定規(guī)則，且決定勝負(fù)的腦力和體力勞動(dòng)的“競(jìng)技”。如：
there is going to be a football game tomorrow afternoon.
ⅲ. match 多指網(wǎng)球、足球、高爾夫球等運(yùn)動(dòng)項(xiàng)目的“比賽” 。
the golf match will he held tomorrow morning.
§134 complete/ finish
ⅰ.complete用作動(dòng)詞表示完成的意思時(shí)，是指把已開(kāi)始但尚未完成的事情完成。如：
① he has completed his task. 他已完成他的工作。
② the railway is not completed yet. 鐵路尚未完工。
ⅱ.finish的意思是“完成、結(jié)束”，著重指圓滿結(jié)束已著手的事情，尤指完成精心之作的最后一步。如：
① have you finished your work yet? 你的工作做完了沒(méi)有？
② i finished reading the book last night. 我昨晚看完了這本書。
③ the picture is finished. 這幅畫畫好了。
§135 conceal/ hide
ⅰ. conceal “隱藏、隱瞞”常與hide通用；但比hide正式些，多指有意將某事物隱藏起來(lái)或不予以泄漏。它只用作及物動(dòng)詞。如：
① the box was concealed under the bed.箱子是藏在床底下的。
② he concealed his moteves. 他隱瞞了他的動(dòng)機(jī)。
