(1)后接“who, what, why等疑問詞引導的賓語從句”，“疑問詞+不定式”時，表示“想知道”。
the teacher wondered why she was late.老師想知道她為什么遲到。
he wondered what happened.他想知道發生了什么事情。
i’m just wondering how to do it.我正想知道怎么做那件事。
(2）后接“that引導的賓語從句”，“不定式短語”時，表示“感到驚奇，對……感到驚訝”。
i wonder that he was off office.我對他下崗感到驚訝。
i wonder to see her looking so cheerful. 我很驚訝地發現她如此高興。
(3)后接if或whether引導的賓語從句時，表示一種委婉的請求或疑問。
i wonder if you would mind giving me a hand.
我不知道你是否能幫我一下。
she wondered whether you were free that morning.
她不知道那天上午你是否有空。

重點、難點、考點及疑點注釋
1. you’re supposed to shake hands.(p94)你們應該握手。
be supposed to用來表示根據規定或按照法律人們不得不做的事，或期待將要發生的事，與should相似，后面也是接動詞原形。否定形式在be動詞后加not，常表示禁止做某事。
we’re supposed to make no noise in class. 在課堂上我們不該發出噪音。
we’re supposed to start work at 8∶00 every morning.
我們應該每天早晨八點開始工作。
2. spending time with family and friends is very important to us. (p96)與家人和朋友共度時光對我們非常重要。
spending time with family and friends 是動名詞短語，在本句中作主語。動名詞（短語）作主語時，謂語動詞要用第三人稱單數形式。如果是并列的動名詞（短語）作主句時，謂語動詞用復數形式。
reading in bed is not good for your eyes. 在床上看書對眼睛不好。
reading and writing take me a lot of time. 讀書寫作花了我不少時間。
不定式（短語）也可作主語，兩者的區別在“語法天地”中有詳解。
3. we’re the land of watches, after all! (p96)畢竟我們是手表的國度。
句中的land意為“國土”，“國家”。它還可以表示 “陸地”，與河流和海洋相對；也可以表示“土地”，可耕種的田地就叫做land。
we traveled by land until we reached the sea.我們沿陸路旅行，直到看見大海。
all the waste land in this area has been opened up.這個地區的荒地全被開墾了。

與“土地”，“地”相關的詞語還有earth, soil和ground。
◎ earth意為“地”，“地球”，“泥土”。它著重指“大地”，區別于“天空”。
the earth moves round the sun.地球圍繞太陽轉。

the soil is very thin in the forest.森林里土層非常薄。
