sick：病的；惡心的（可作定語或表語）。ill：病的（可作表語，不當定語）；壞的（通常作定語，不作表語）。例如：

20.silent / quiet / calm / still
silent：安靜的，寂靜的，沉默不語的。表示不說話、不弄出聲響，但不一定指沒有活動。例如：

例683：the class was silent as the teacher explained the exam rules.

quiet：安靜的，寧靜的。用于自然環境，指沒有喧鬧的寂靜狀態，相當于peaceful（寧靜的，平靜的，安寧的 / 和平的， 愛好和平的）；指人時，表示生性安靜、沉默寡言的、不易激動。例如：
例684： as we were walking along the quiet / peaceful lake, he just kept silent all the time. but in fact, he is not a quiet man. （當我們沿著寧靜的湖岸散步時，他自始至終一言不發，可實際上他并不是沉默寡語的人。）
例685：be quiet. your father is sleeping now. （安靜點，你爸爸正在睡覺呢。）
calm：平靜的，冷靜的，鎮靜的。例如：
例686：the sea is now calm.
例687：keep calm in time of danger. （危險時要保持冷靜。）
still：靜止的，不動的。例如：
例688：please keep still while i’m taking your photos.
例689：the saying “still waters run deep” is used to say that someone who is quiet may have very strong feelings or a lot of knowledge. (“靜水流深”這個諺語用來指生性安靜的人也許有著強烈的情感或豐富的知識。)
21.special / especial / particular / peculiar
special：特別的，特殊的，專門的；專程的。例如：
例690：are you doing anything special for christmas?
例691：this is a special room for you.
例692：i came here specially to see you. （我是專程來看你的。）
especial：特別的，尤其的。（英國英語，正式用語，相當于special，但special含有“專門的，專程的”之意）例如：
例693：this is an issue of especial importance. （這是個特別重要的問題。）
例694：i came here to see my friends, especially you. （我來看朋友，特別是你。）
particular：特別的，尤其的；挑剔的。例如：
例695：i didn’t have any particular plan in mind.
例696：the old lady is really particular about what she eats. （老太太對吃的特別挑剔。）
peculiar：特有的，獨具的。例如：
例697：that is his peculiar character. （那就是他的獨特性格。）
22.wide / broad
wide：寬的，寬闊的。指距離寬，是常用詞語，也可用來形容人的眼睛、嘴巴；可以用于引申意義，表示“廣泛的、淵博的、豐富的”等。例如：
