1. play the pupil’s book cassette and ask the pupils to listen to the sound and the words.
2. say the words slowly and clearly. check that the pupils are saying the g sound correctly.
3. ask the pupils what sound g makes in girl, good and goat. tell the pupils that g has two sounds. when g comes before i or e it usually has this soft g sound.
4. play the pupil’s book cassette again. ask the pupils to listen to the rhyme and to circle the vegetables named in the rhyme. get the pupils to repeat the rhyme.

1. tell the pupils to work in groups of six. demonstrate how to play the memory game.
2. tell the pupils to write the names of the food on their shopping list and to write the names of the food and a price tags on page 64.
3. the pupils then divide into pairs, preferably with a member of a different group.
4. tell the pupils to cut out the price tags on page 64, fold them and stand them up on their desk with the prices facing them so their partner can’t see them. they then give their shopping list to their partner who asks for the things on the list.
