play a guessing game. divide the class into two teams. the teams take it in turns to nominate two pupils to come to the front. show the pupils a slip of paper with the name of a game on it and get them to read it silently. tell them to draw a picture of the game on the board. the members of their own team guess what the sport is. they get a point for each correct guess. if the first team cannot guess the other team can try. keep score on the board.

presentation
1 bring in a clock used for teaching the time. make sure the pupils can clearly see the twelve numbers on the clock’s face.
2 (books closed.) display the clock or draw a clock on the board. teach the word clock.
3 point to the numbers in sequence and ask the pupils to count with me to twelve. then point to numbers individually and out of sequence, asking the pupils what number is this?
4 move the hands to one o’clock. say it’s one o’clock. write the time on the board in words and numbers. change the hour hand to two and repeat the process with the other numbers.
5 ask what time is it? answer the question by pointing to the hour hand and saying it’s … o’clock. write the question and the answer on the board. write the times using words, e.g. one o’clock and numerals as it would be written on a digital clock, e.g. 1:00.
6 ask several pupils to act the teacher. ask them to come, move the hands of the clock and ask the others what time is it?
practice
1 (books open.) show transparency and play the pupil’s book cassette. the pupils listen and follow in their books. continue to play the cassette and ask the pupils to repeat the words after the beeps.
2 show the pupils the times in numbers written down the side of the timetable. ask what time is it? the pupils reply it’s … o’clock. tell the pupils to point to the correct small picture at the bottom of the page.
3 point to the games the pupils are playing at the different times. show the pupils that pat and tim are playing different games at each time.
4 ask the pupils to work in groups of three to complete the conversation between koko, the teacher and the boy about what the children are doing at each of the times.
