4. the milu deer is a kind of deer that used to be common in china long ago. 很久以前,麋鹿在中國是一種很普通的鹿。我們已學過,used to do 表示過去經常發生,但現在已不再發生的動作。區分:i used to get up at 5 o'clock. 我過去常五點起床。i'm used to getting up at 5 o'clock. 我習慣了早上5:00起床。

6. alive 活著,只能做表語。你可以說:the deer is alive. 但你不能說: this is an alive deer. 因為alive不能做定語,不過你可以用live。this is a live deer. 在這兒live讀做 [laiv],是形容詞。很多以a開始的形容詞都只能做表語,如:afraid, alone, asleep, ashamed等。還可做賓語補足語:they caught the monkey alive. 他們活捉了那只猴子。
7. in fact, there are now so many deer that some are being sent to places which would like to return this kind of deer to the wild. 事實上,這種麋鹿的數量已經很多,以致有些麋鹿正被送往那些愿意把它們放回野外去的地方。wild 形容詞“野生的,不易馴服的”;名詞“荒野”:there are many wild animals in the forests. 森林中有很多野獸。 the village people are planting trees to turn the wild into a beautiful garden. 村民們植樹要把荒地變成美麗的花園。

介詞“by + 時間”意思是“截止…(時間)為止”,謂語動詞常用過去完成時:by 1995, china’s population had grown to 1,200,000,000. 到1995年,中國人口已增長至12億。by the end of last term they had learned more than 50 english lessons.
9. since then the number of milu deer there has greatly increased. 從那時候起,那里的麋鹿數量大大地增加了。 increase可以做及物動詞或不及物動詞,讀做[in'kri:s]。旅行可以增加人們對世界的了解:travel increases one's knowledge of the world. 這些年來人口大大增加了。the population has greatly increased these years. 它還可以做名詞用,重音在第一音節,['inkri:s]。人口的增加會引起各種社會問題: the increase of population will cause social problems.
