1. turn down 關小、調低
the radio is too noisy. please turn it down. 收音機聲音太響了，請把它調小一點。the theatre lights were turned down. 劇場的燈光變暗了。
2. ring off 掛斷電話、停止講話
i’ll have to ring off now; i have a train to catch. 我得掛斷電話了，我要趕火車。he rang off before i could explain. 我還沒來得及解釋，他就把電話掛上了。
3. call sb back 回電話
can you ask him to call me back? 你能請他給我回個電話嗎？有關接電話的用語如下: 如果接電話的不是你要找的人，可以說：would you please call sb. to the phone? 能叫某人接電話嗎？hold on a second! 別掛斷電話! i’ll answer the phone. 我來接電話。xiao wang, you are wanted on the telephone. 小王，有你電話。找不到要找的人，需要叫接電話的人轉告他回個電話給你：would you please tell him to call me back ?
4. come to 達到（某數量）、共計
the food i bought come to 50 yuan. 我買的食物共計為50元。the books i bought came to one hundred. 我買的書共計達到了100本。 the total cost of repairs comes to 650 yuan. 修理費總計650元。
5. for free 免費
for nothing 或 without payment: i got the ticket for free. 我這張票沒花錢。free 免費: we received a free ticket for the theatre. 我們收到免費戲票。children under five usually travel free on trains. 五歲以下兒童乘火車通常免費。
6. leave school 畢業、退學、放學回家
is susan still at school, or has she left school? 蘇珊是在讀書還是已經畢業了呢？the child left school for the lack of money. 這個小孩因為缺錢中途退學了。school 前若加定冠詞，則不含“畢業”之意。he leaves the school and goes back home.
7. start doing sth 開始做某事
it started raining (to rain). 天開始下雨了。let’s start tidying up the room right now. 我們現在立即開始收拾屋子吧。
1. this time he has more difficulty in getting through. 這次電話比較難打通。
have difficulty in doing something有困難做某事: some students have a lot of difficulty (in) doing math problems. 一些學生做數學題有很大困難。do you have any difficulty in supporting such a large family? 你供養如此大的家庭有困難嗎？
2. it'll be the biggest live concert the world has ever seen. 這將是世界上從未有過的最大的現場音樂會。
句型the + 最高級 + 名詞 + that 定語從句: this is the most wonderful film that i have ever seen. 這是我有史以來看過的最精彩的電影。注意從句中的時態：he is one of the best men (that) i have ever met. 他是我碰到的最好的人之一。
1. he is ringing up some pop stars; he wants them to play in a concert. 他正在給一些流行歌星打電話，想請他們在一個音樂會上演出。play 在此處表示“演奏、演唱”。可是及物動詞，也可是不及物動詞。如：she played the pipa quite successfully. 她的琵琶彈得非常成功。she went on playing the music of beethoven. 她繼續彈奏貝多芬的曲子。詞組 play with 表示“玩…”, 如：ask the children not to play with fire. it's very dangerous. 叫孩子們不要玩火，那非常危險。
